I grew up with the grill going every Sunday afternoon and have continued this trend in my own household with my family. I love to experiment with new foods on the grill, and as your Johnston Hy-Vee dietitian, it is my pleasure to provide you and your family with delicious recipes and helpful tips to incorporate into your grilling activities.
Here are some ideas to keep your grilling healthy this season:
- Spray the grill or food with a light coat of olive-oil cooking spray to prevent sticking
- Put firm, marinated vegetables on a pre-soaked skewer for easier handling and flipping.
- Cut a banana in half lengthwise within the peel. Add 1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon low-fat graham cracker crumbs in slit, then place on grill until the peel is grilled.
- Trim excess fat off meats prior to grilling and add seasoning for flavor.
